EXCALIBER SCROLL SAW EX30

Product Details

  • Throat Capacity: The EX30, refers to this scroll saw's 30 inch" throat capacity. The distance between the front of the blade and the inside of the arms.
  • Tilting Head: Its claim-to-fame is that unlike most scroll saws this saws table does NOT move but rather the entire head tilts 45 degrees in each direction. They have incorporated a large angle indicator and locking knob for precise setting.

At the maximum 45° tilt it has a cutting capacity of 1 1/4" . This keeps your working surface parallel to the floor for easier cutting.

  • Cutting Capacity: If the arms are keep in the upright position then the saw has a 2" cutting capacity.
  • Speed Controls: Excaliber uses a rocker style switch with a dust sleeve, for on and off positions and a separate turn style knob for speed adjustment. I find the knob a little small but both are located on the top and front of the upper arm
  • Tension controls: A spring loaded flip lever or cam is mounted right on the blade clamps to allow one stroke tensioning of the blade. It is two positional, in other words it is OFF for changing blades and fully back for tensioning the new blade. Unlike the Dewalt it does not have multi level tensioning, so if you like to fiddle with the tension while cutting you'll find this a little frustrating.

You can use the knob at the back that lifts the upper arm, to add more or less tension to the blade once it has been clamped in place, but it is ackward to reach and 30" away..
  • Table Surface: 14” x 32 1/2” work table, with support for the table on both the front and the back of the scroll saw..
  • Top arm raise: The upper arm lifts to give more clearance for blade changes. This is not really a big deal if you are only working on small projects but on large portraits it saves the neck from ackward poses trying to thread a blade through a small hole.
  • On Board Dust Blower: has a metal arm so holds its location which is nice
  • Types of Blades: This saw can only use plain ended blades.
  • Motor: 120 volt, 1.3 amp, Variable speed scroll saw from 400 stp to 1550 stp. This is a good motor and provides plenty of power for any application, unlike some of the offshore ones that I've had die after a few uses.
  • Blade Changes: No-tool quick blade changes with finger operated knob for clamping. The clamps are machined of steel rather than the more brittle cast iron components found in many designs.
  • Blade Storage: the excalibur scroll saw has built in blade holders on each side of the machine's body to hold mulitple round blade tubes. This comes in handy to keep the various sizes sorted and ready for use.
  • Blade Raise and Lower: The most unique feature of this Excaliber Scroll Saw is the upper arm tentioner knob at the back of the machine.. If you turn it all the way in the clockwise direction it will raise the arm to its maximum height. if you turn the blade counterclockwise 4 full turns it will drop the upper arm approximately 1" lower and allow you to use a fresh and sharper section of your scroll saw blade.
  • Weight: 114 pounds, Length 43” x 15.5” width, x 15.25 height
  • Warranty: 2 years

Accessories for the Excaliber Scroll Saw EX21

  • excaliber scroll saw standScroll Saw Stand: Excaliber produces a pretty light duty four legged, angle iron, bolt-together scroll saw stand. It is a little larger and the legs span a little further, but i still find it a bit light duty for a 100 pound machine.

If it comes with the machine then take it but if you have to pay $100 I'd make one myself. That way, I could incorporate some storage compartments into the design of the base. This is great particlurly if you are tight on space.

  • excaliber scroll saw foot pedalFoot pedal: The foot pedal is an alternative method of turning your saw on and off, by-passing the standard switch. With current safety requirements, the excaliber scroll saw is only ON when the peddle is HELD in the down position. The foot pedal does not operate as a manual On/Off switch.

Thus if you scroll for a long time in one shot, it may cause foot cramping and you'd be better to save the dollars and train yourself to use the traditional switch conveniently located on the top of the tool.

  • Extra Light. I believe they have a light now that clamps to the left side of their machines. Seems to me it was about $30. you can certainly get a lot less expensive LED lights that will do the same thing if you don't care about fashion co-ordination.. There are even some availbale with a magnetic base that will stick to the steel body of the excalibur scroll saw.

Approximate Cost: $1100.00 plus $50 to $100 for the stand depending on whether you buy it with the saw or independently.

Excalibur Scroll Saw Parts:

After a bit of trading, the excalibur scroll saw brand is now owned by General International, a Canadian tool manufacturer in Montreal, Quebec. You can tell if you have one of their models by the colour. When general bought out the company they changed the colour to their standard muddy green :)
