This is the place to find answers on which glue to use and what
characteristics to look for. Some glues need to be waterproof
and some need to dissolve in water, some need to be able to compensate
for poor contact and have gap filling capabilities, other applications
when we know the surfaces are perfectly smooth can use woodworking
adhesives less inclined to leave a visible glue line. The important
thing is to know when you can use what... enjoy
Buying the most expensive is not always the way to go... a PVA fully waterproof glue will cost you twice the price of a basic woodworker's glue. I've found it to be slipperier thus more of a challenge to clamp accurately so if you don't need it why pay the extra, AND have more difficulty in usage.
For high strength glues you also pay a premium. In most cases the wood fiber will fracture BEFORE the glue line, so again why pay more for something that isn't really going to offer you an advantage.
Do your homework. Read these wood glue reviews to find the BEST wood glue for YOUR application, not the one that puts the most money in someone else's pocket :). The best types of glue for woodworking are the ones that are matched to your projects structural and usage needs and the wood species (or other materials) you are using.
